luke8-25

Today’s readings: Hosea 10:1–15; Acts 25:13–27; Luke 8:16–25

Luke’s text begins with Jesus discussing lamps being hidden and ends with the disciples asking the question, “Who then is this?” Obviously, lamps light the way and make it easy to see. It appears Jesus wants nothing of himself hidden from sight. He also encourages us to pay attention to how we listen. It seems imperative that we see, hear, and pay attention clearly to Christ for our benefit.

I love the story of Jesus calming the storm because the response of the disciples is the same one I would have had, “Who is this guy?” This is the question that we as Christians must answer, not only for ourselves but also for the world. This is why it is important for us to see, hear, and pay attention, for Christ has revealed himself to us through his word and through all his followers before us.

We are inheritors of the greatest gift of all time and it is our responsibility to tell the world who this guy Jesus Christ is and all that he has done. As Paul stood and gave an account for Christ, so must we.

Prayer: God, help us stand for you!
