Zechariah 13:1-9; Ephesians 1:15-23; Luke 19:12-27

What has the Lord given you to do? What has he put in front of you? “Thy will be done” begins with the person who prays those words. It is best to do God’s will, rather than what you have been doing or what you want to do. If you are not doing God’s will, you are not being your best.

Paul had been a rabidly religious man, doing what he thought he should do, to the extent of overseeing the imprisonment and even the slaughter of Christians. Then a fountain was opened that cleansed him from sin and changed his life. Did he persist in his old ways or did he do what God placed before him? He changed his ways to the extent that he continuously gave thanks for the same people he once desired to eradicate.

Invest the faith that God has given you. Work hard for his kingdom because you love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength (Mark 12:28). God will give an increase of what he has given you—and at very least, the increase will be in you.

Prayer: May your will be done in my life, Father. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Mark Ryman, Communications Coordinator for the NALC and Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Advance, NC.
