Today’s readings: 1 Samuel 5:1-12; Acts 5:12-26; Luke 21:29-36

The apostles taught publicly. They healed a lot of people. They even cast out demons. They were a busy band of brothers in Christ. Yes, they were most certainly appreciated by those whose lives were changed by their witness. Yet, no matter how much people appreciated what they did in the name of Jesus, there were those who were afraid to be seen near them because there were others who sought to imprison the followers of Jesus in order to shut them up.

There will always be people who find the name of Jesus offensive. They will seek to stop the good news of the kingdom, but it cannot be stopped. The Word cannot be stopped. His words will never pass away (Luke 21:33). The kingdom of God will be proclaimed until he returns in full glory.

Do not be afraid; God is with you. Follow wherever Jesus leads you. Go to those to whom you are called. Announce a new life in God’s Kingdom for all who would believe while there is yet time; for we do not know the day or the hour when we will be called to stand before the Son of Man.

Prayer: May God help us to be faithful witnesses—even unto death—to the Kingdom of God in Christ Jesus. Amen.
