Today’s readings: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14; 2 Corinthians 3:1-9; John 12:27-36a

Grace, mercy, and peace from the one who was, who is, and who is to come!

Long ago, Daniel was very troubled by his dreams and wanted to know what they meant. People in Jesus’ time also wanted to know who the Son of Man was. The identity of Jesus continues to pose threats for some and controversies for others. Yet this devotion does not attempt to give answers for the mysteries of God. One of God’s glories and mysteries is his hiddenness. God is both hidden and revealed. God revealed himself to the world through Jesus. Now we, the ministers of the New Covenant, are commissioned by Jesus to proclaim the gospel and to make him known in word and deed. He did this not because we are competent but because we has empowered us through the power of the Holy Spirit to be the light of the world which perpetually shines in the spiritual darkness. All authority and power belongs to Christ, and by his strength we are called to serve in humility.

Prayer: Lord, help us not to be preoccupied by what we do not know but strengthen us to strive to do the work of your kingdom. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Abera Hellemo, Pastor of Vinemont Community Lutheran Church, Reinholds, PA.
